Double Birthday Celebration - Ate Danielle and Mr W.
Today we celebrated two birthdays at Ruel.
The Birthday Girl is Ate Danielle. She is volunteering with us from New Zealand and is already very loved.
The Birthday Boy is Mr W. His family situation is very sad, and he and his two sisters have had a hard time in their lives.
It is sometimes hard to get a smile out of Mr W., but at Ruel we believe an important way to celebrate and value each child is by helping them have a good time on their birthday. Enjoy these birthday pics.

Before-and-after-candle pics, exactly the same facial expression
A smile from Mr W!
Waiting patiently...

There's a smile!
Gotta love cake mess :)
Kuya David enjoys a good birthday bash (with cake!) as much as anyone
Walks Around the Neighbourhood
Sometimes, depending on the weather and what sort of mood the Ruel kids are in, we go for a walk around the neighbourhood. There are no 'playgrounds' as such nearby, but we have a couple of open areas we go to have a run around.
I (Kuya David) have found these walks to be a great way to get to know the local area, and I am slowly getting used to the stares that come with being a white guy in amongst a group of kids.
Here are some pictures of our most recent journeys:
Proudly showing off our new possessions that we acquired along the way. These included a blue plastic tube, empty handcream containers, half a toy truck, a toy dinosaur, a medallion sash without the medal attached, a broken pink Gameboy and a broken cellphone.I (Kuya David) have found these walks to be a great way to get to know the local area, and I am slowly getting used to the stares that come with being a white guy in amongst a group of kids.

Just your friendly neighbourhood cat
It's funny how the kids are so desperate to get in the photos, then they don't look at the camera
Little Mr R willingly wore this lovely floral arrangement on his head.
Kuya David's Australia hat went in the washing machine, as it was passed around on too many heads today
