The Story of Mr F - Soccer Star of the Future

So here's the story of how Ruel's own 8-year-old Mr F is a potential soccer star of the future.

The older Ruel kids are going to a church called United Evangelical Church. UEC partner with an organisation called Compassion International and they run activities for economically poor primary-school children on a weekend. It is called the Hiyas Project.

A wonderful fella called Coach Dom has recently started running a free soccer clinic for the Hiyas kids on Saturday mornings at a local College. Somehow Mr F found out and asked if he could join in.

So two Saturdays ago, Kuya David took Mr F and his sister along to the College. Coach Dom never showed up that day (work reasons), but there was another group of kids training. It turned out this was a summer clinic for the actual Oriental Mindoro club. Kuya David asked the coach if Mr F could join in and he agreed.

Because Mr F had never played soccer before, he was in a group with the little guys (5-7 year olds). They did some drills then played a bit of two-on-two with miniature goals. Mr F was the clear standout, and the coach was impressed.

We returned last Saturday and met with coach Dom. The Hiyas kids were on a camp, so there would be no clinic for them, but the other group was training again. This time Mr F was in the next age level up, and he found it tough going (he came back with stories of this kid kicking him and standing on his foot. Kuya David assured him that those things sometimes happen in soccer and you just have to be tough and strong).

After the session the coach asked if Mr F could be registered for the rest of the summer clinics and said he had potential as a striker. He also mentioned a tournament coming up.

Well done Mr F! It's exciting to see what will happen.
