YWAM-ers Meet UECPCOM Church on Good Friday

A few weeks ago, the older kids from Ruel started going to a wonderful church called United Evangelical Church (UECPCOM), in a neighbouring Barangay. A link was first formed through Kuya David's involvement, and then the kids started coming. It has been a real blessing, both for us and for them.

Through their partnership with child development organisation Compassion International, UECPCOM has a real heart for children and runs a quality and engaging program which keeps the kids expectant and coming back each week.

We have also been able to keep the church's "foreign visitor" tally going fairly consistently by inviting our visiting volunteers along, and the church members have always shown them friendliness and warmth.

This week we have had a ten-person team arrive from YWAM in New Zealand. They come from six different countries: US, Canada, NZ, Finland, Switzerland and Netherlands. Before they came, they wanted the opportunity to lead a church service, and the leaders of UECPCOM were happy to oblige.

This week was Holy Week (Easter), and the church had a worship time on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evening. It was decided that the YWAM team could lead on Friday. They brought some worship songs, a drama, a testimony, a message and a small group discussion.

The crowd was small but welcoming and friendly. At the beginning of the service we were unintentionally "segregated", with Filipinos on one side and foreigners on the other, but the small group discussion was a great way for us to mix and come together, and this led the way for positive and joyful conversations after the service was over.

It was great to see, and you could tell God was in the place.
